Class Descriptions - Royal Academy Of Dance (Grades)
Pre-School Ballet Class (2 - 3 yrs)
A fun and imaginative introduction to the world of Ballet. We explore music, rhythms and movement in a gentle, encouraging way. As well as using creative imagery, props and storytelling to make your little ones Ballet experience one to remember! (30 Minute Class).
Pre-Primary Ballet (4 - 6 yrs)
These structured classes develop student's physical skills, stamina, creativity, expression and musicality using a range of movements and musical styles. The syllabi prepare students for a successful transition to Ballet and other dance genres. You can expect to use lots of fun props and creative imaginative scenes. (30 Minute Class).
Primary Ballet (6 - 7 yrs)
Traveling movements learned previously are given more complexity with the addition of skips forward, backward and simple jump combinations. Expression and musical awareness are taught through free movement, mime and storytelling. Coordination and control of the body, arms, hands and head are improved. Primary level students have now developed the ability to retain basic movement combinations and can now perform short dances in solo form. (45 Minute Class).
Grade 1 Ballet (7 - 9 yrs)
Grade 1 introduces students to the foundations of barre work to develop proper alignment and classical technique. Students continue to work on traveling steps with an introduction to grand allegro. An emphasis is placed on turning, jumping, and linking steps. Introductory character work and free movement study provide students with an avenue for self expression and performance style. Students are expected to show awareness of basic technique appropriate timing and musicality. (45 Minute Class).
Acro Dance (8 - 16 yrs)
Acro Dance is an especially challenging style for dancers. In this class, you will learn to leap, bridge, roll & all sorts of fun things! If you enjoy trying new things and would like to gain more balance, co-ordination and self-confidence, then this is the class for you! (30 Minute Class).
Teen Contemporary/Lyrical (10+)
Contemporary Dance is all about expressing emotion through organic movements and unrestricted lines. Incorporating elements of lyrical Jazz, Ballet and Modern dance, Contemporary is an exciting fusion which allows students to work through powerful and emotional routines (45 Minute Class).
